Starting High School, I became a member of Techo Club. For the past two years I have been able to participate in the "New Members Retreat," two Roosevelt Builds, Techo concert, helping out for two consecutive years at the Techo booth in the Kermesse, and I also participated in the Encuesta (where we went to San Juan de Lurigancho and interviewed people to see the conditions they faced, and the state of their house).
My most recent involvements, were the Roosevelt Build that took place in April of this year and helping out at the Techo Booth in the Kermesse.
For this build, I went with a group of eight friends. Together we fundraised enough money by doing bake sales and asking family members and friend if they would like to donate any. Finally we had enough money to build a home! It was a two-day-unforgettable experience. I remember arriving the first day at the family was so excited, especially the kids, who couldn't believe they would have a new room. I think the best part of it all is knowing that you were part of building the house; doing all the hard work by straightening the floor, hammering, carrying the walls, it was a challenge but fun experience. Not only that but also I feel extremely happy knowing that I'm improving someone's life by doing a small change in the world.
