Rotary, if you don´t know is a big movement around the world that joins leaders of all ages to create friendships and together work to improve the community. As it says in their websites ¨The heart of Rotary is our clubs - dedicated people who share a passion for both community service and friendship.¨ Rotary is the big club, however, I belong to Interact. The movement that belongs to kids ages 12 to 18 who want to make a change in the world. I´m very new to this club but its definitely an opportunity for me to meet new people and to do what I mostly enjoy which is helping others.
I recently arrived to Guatemala and in December 2013 I decided to become a member of Interact. My first participation was the christmas party! This year a new cabinet had to be elected, I took the risk and ran for the treasurer position. I love doing community service and I´ve always been part of the people who do what they are supposed to do but this time I wanted to be a leader, I wanted to be the one that guided the people to incredible activities and projects. In a few months I will officially start my role in the club!
February 21, 2014 - Another Interact group from Seattle visited Guatemala, and together we went to a school close to La Antigua. We gave students new notebooks, and an emergency kit. Aside from that it was very cool to meet new friends, new cultures and to créate relationships as we played with the kids from the school. What really impacted me was that when we first arrived the first thing the little kids did was run towards us and hug us. It was so cute to see that so many kids needed love, needed that hug, that smile that would light up their day even more. What they liked the most was the candies, I had a fun time playing soccer and just anything that made them happy!
What made this experience remarkable was not only helping the ones in need but having the opportunity to meet new friends! Today the world is small I believe I might encounter them someway in the future in any part of the world!

December 2013 - Interact organizes a christmas party to a foundation called Nuestra Sagrada Familia. The idea is that in the christmas tree, that is placed in the office, there are angels and bells, and people pick one and donate to a specific kid or family things they need like notebooks, backpacks, food, or as simple as a toothbrush!
I volunteered to be in charge of three very cute and happy girls, who enjoyed the schools´ playground and all the activities planned by the cabinet. It was a very rewarding experience to spend some time with them, to share our stories, to laugh, play and draw together. The best part was to see the smile on their faces as they left school with their presents in their hands.
